It was a day of any kind
With gentle, tranquil, breeze
The sun awoke upon the hill
And climbed the sky with ease
Upon the hill there was a tree
With birds that chimed the day
Enjoying each a peck of fruit
From cherries grown in May
Swaying soft on branches firm
The cherries soon would fall
The ones that fell provide the food
For creatures great and small
Behind the hill there was a hole
Where rabbits made their nest
Among them one of quickest feet
Who liked the cherries best.
With quickest feet The Rabbit leapt
Then hopped upon the hill
Gazed straight at the horizon’s globe
Just when the breeze stood still
The cherries lay upon the ground
Enough to fill his cheeks
But when the wind stops suddenly
The day no longer speaks
Without the talk of morning air
The cherries lost their sweet
The birds had lost their will to sing
And sang no single tweet
The silence came upon the hill
And made The Rabbit fear
Something in the breeze had calmed
And now was drawing near
Closing in The Rabbit felt
A pulse from eyes that stare
But so bright was the sun that day
It caused a blinding glare
Just then the wind returned with force
The Shadow blocked the hour
The Rabbit lifted off the ground
By talons fierce with power
Lifted far above the tree
The Rabbit saw the sky
Fearing now the worst had come
The Rabbit’s eyes would cry
Just then the breeze turned fierce and cold
And plunged into the air
It graced the talon’d windrider
Enough to cause a scare
The talons loosed The Rabbit’s hold
Enough to free him there
But losing now the talon’s grasp
The Rabbit fell through air
Glimmering just below his feet
He saw a shining light
It was a river flowing soft
That stopped The Rabbit’s flight
The Rabbit was not far from shore
And safely made his way
He shook the water from his fur
And kicked the dirt away
The Rabbit landed in a glen
Where trees had made their home
The birds sang sweet upon the trees
And gentle grazers roam
But seeing this was not his hill
The Rabbit made his hop
He continued on his Rabbit way
Deciding not to stop
He ran with hopping force that day
Through glens, and fields, and lands
He scurried past the streams and trees
Near where the mountain stands
The Rabbit ran a little more
And saw a gleaming light
The Rabbit’s heart with beating force
Leapt now with sheer delight
Upon a hill there stood a tree
With birds that sang of fruits
Below the tree was Rabbit’s hole
Held firmly by the roots
The Rabbit raced upon the hill
And ate the cherries gone
He nibbled each and every one
‘Til only there was one
The Rabbit looked upon the fruit
Its red and roundish make
Then feeling how much he did eat
The Rabbit felt a shake
His stomach churned from eating them
And made The Rabbit weak
The shadow came upon hill
When day was at its peak
The Rabbit lay upon the hill
And let the cherries fall
He watched as creatures came to eat
Of hungers great and small
The Rabbit now with slowest feet
Climbed down the Cherry hill
He made his way into the hole
Just when the breeze stood still
The sun had moved and said goodnight
To Rabbit in his hole
The Rabbit closed his eyes at last
And let go of his goal
For sometimes having quickest feet
Will lead to danger fast
And sometimes taking all in greed
Can make the sweet not last
And so The Rabbit slept it off
And woke at morning’s light
But seeing now his wrongful way
He did now what is right
He scurried slow upon the hill
And let the cherries fall
He ate his fill then left the rest
For creatures great and small
